Server-side ecommerce tagging for Shopify Store
Background and Goals
SAVD Clothing project: We implemented server-side ecommerce tagging for a Shopify store. The project focused on building a robust, server-side data collection and conversion tracking setup to improve attribution accuracy, reduce signal loss from ad blockers and browser restrictions, and provide a scalable foundation for multi-platform advertising (Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok).
Google Tag Manager
Client and server-side containers.
GA4
Ecommerce and event tracking.
Shopify
Store and data layer source.
Elevar
Server-side tagging and Shopify event mapping.
Google Ads, Meta, TikTok
Conversion and campaign tracking.
Approach, Architecture &
Key Decisions
We implemented server-side tagging to improve attribution and reduce signal loss.

Server-side GTM container received events from Elevar and Shopify data layer; events forwarded to GA4, Google Ads, Meta, and TikTok. This approach reduced reliance on client-side scripts and improved conversion resilience against ad blockers and ITP.

Ecommerce events (view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout, purchase) implemented with structured data. Dynamic value and order ID passed for accurate revenue reporting. Enhanced Conversions and consent handling aligned with platform requirements.
